A life in shambles

Lyr might be a powerful elven lord in charge of thousands, but his personal life is a disaster. Just the month before, a daughter he'd never known existed arrived from Earth, giving him news of his lost love's death. Since then he has been betrayed, captured, and almost murdered. And though his enemy was defeated, Lyr's wounds never seem to heal. He certainly doesn't need more conflict.

A perilous journey

Amid the glittering perfection of Alfheim, Meli is a dismal failure. Haunted by visions of people and places she's never seen, she struggles to find her place. So when her king orders her to lead an expedition to another world, Meli is caught between shock and terror. How can she navigate the veil between worlds with no magic of her own? But with Alfheim threatened by strange, dark energy, she has no choice.

A threat that spans worlds

The last thing Lyr expects is the arrival of the Ljósálfar, the reclusive Norse elves of Alfheim. More surprising? One among them, Meli, is a possible soulbounded, a link he'd believed lost with his previous love. But wounded and besieged with problems on every side, he can't let himself be distracted. Poisoned energy is flooding into the closely connected realms of the fae, causing sickness, and Lyr must rush to find the source of the threat.

Only Moranaia remains untouched - leading Lyr to suspect one of his own people might be to blame.

Sundered The Return of the Elves Book 2 (Audible Audio Edition) Bethany Adams Gabrielle de Cuir Stefan Rudnicki Claire Bloom director Skyboat Media Books

While I loved the first one in large part because of the development of some excellent characters, this second installment is far less intimate and charming. It's much more about the building of the larger world now, along with creating the major conflicts, and so steps outside what I thought was the author's biggest strength: the conception and development of complex and suitably noble (or villainous) characters to people a beautiful fantasy earth. I really enjoy Ms. Adams' writing, and for a second effort, this is a good one. I suspect she will improve and grow with time, and I intend to follow her writing, likely for a very long while.

Sundered The Return of the Elves Book 2 (Audible Audio Edition) Bethany Adams Gabrielle de Cuir Stefan Rudnicki Claire Bloom director Skyboat Media Books Reviews

What can I say? Another page-turning from Adams! There are so many things to like about this book. The characters, the many intertwining story lines, more than one loving father/daughter relationship, more than one soul-bonded and love story, plot twists, many not necessarily wrapping up but most concluding in ways that do not leave heart-wrenching cliff-hangers. Yet, there is still the burning desire to read the next book. I love the well-written characters. The scenes are clearly imaginable. The interconnectedness of the many characters, even from different realms, is very enjoyable. This book will not disappoint! Well done, Ms Adams!
This book has more of a serial feel to it than the first, but it’s still a satisfying journey. Characters are more deeply fleshed out, including some who are revealed as being not quite what they seem. The plot of this second book isn’t as self-contained as the first, which is understandable. But the author doesn’t end on a cliffhanger, instead relying on the quality of her work to draw the reader into the next purchase. I’ve already purchased the third, which oddly is a novella. Perhaps she’s taking a side trip before continuing the journey. Anyway, this one too is highly recommended.
The second of the series introduces a new cast with some familiar faces, which was a bit difficult for me at first. I really liked the lead characters of Soulbound and had to adjust to them being supporting characters. But Adams knows what she is doing. By the middle of the book, I liked the new leads a much as, if not more, than those I grew attached to previously.

The storyline was original and creative, which can be difficult in an episodic series. Again, Adams encourages people to be a bit nicer and more open with her storytelling. Although this novel includes soul bonds and their effect on the elves, this story focuses more on individual value and the dangers of measuring everyone with the same criteria. She leaves you encouraged and more encouraging.

Again, a sweet and entertaining story that resounds seemingly without intending to.
I liked this more as it went along, but I did like the first book a lot better. Its a series I enjoy and other than the fact that we likely have at least three characters who might drive the next books (Lial, Selia and Ralan, I'd guess), I hope there is more POV separation. I appreciated we got back to Kai and Aryln, but it was kind of abrupt because we were just observing them from Lyr's perspective (where I did keep expecting more interest or impressiveness with his daughter and her aptitude as opposed to just simply regret everytime he looked at her).
Awesome world building, intricate plot and wonderful characters . Cannot wait for book three!!!!
I absolutely enjoy all the connections between the different fae, elves, Nordic and Celtic. The magic is easily understood, the editing is first rate. High fantasy at its best. Very enjoyable and refreshingly different than so many books in this genre.
This is the second book in this series, and like the first, a joy to read. The characters are interesting, the plot moves along nicely, and the writing/editing well-done. You don't have to read the first book in this series to enjoy this one, but doing so, will give you a better sense of these characters. Also, this is a complete book. Unlike some authors, Ms. Adams doesn't leave you hanging at the end, wondering "What the heck just happened here?" Because she does tie the different plot points together and give you a complete read, you can read this book and not feel like you were scammed. Looking forward to the next book in this series.
I really liked the first book in this series but this one took a disappointing turn. The story overall was interesting with lots of potential but there was way too much focus on Lyr and Meli's relationship. Lyr was presented in the first book as a noble lord and in this book you mostly hear about his desire for Meli. I had hoped to continue the story of Aryln but she was almost a minor character in this book. The relationships (soulbonded) were too rushed and unbelievable. Also, I wish there had been a little more character building. Unfortunately, I did not like it enough to continue the series.
While I loved the first one in large part because of the development of some excellent characters, this second installment is far less intimate and charming. It's much more about the building of the larger world now, along with creating the major conflicts, and so steps outside what I thought was the author's biggest strength the conception and development of complex and suitably noble (or villainous) characters to people a beautiful fantasy earth.
